The Davenport Legacy
October 18, 2025-Spring 2026
For over a century, the Davenport has been more than just a hotel, it’s been Spokane’s grand gathering place, a symbol of gracious hospitality, and a beloved part of our city’s story. In The Davenport Legacy, visitors will explore two sides of the Davenport story in our community.
Step inside Checking in at the Davenport and discover the rich legacy of the Davenport block, from its beginnings as a celebrated restaurant that drew national acclaim, to its transformation into the iconic hotel we know today—a cherished backdrop for generations of memories. From the rubble of Spokane's Great Fire to becoming one of America’s finest hotels, photos and objects donated by the community tell the story of a building that sits at the heart of Spokane's community experience. You’ll also glimpse the private world of the Davenport family’s elegant homes, particularly the hotel apartment crafted by architect Kirtland Cutter. The Elegance & Ambition gallery will feature rarely displayed architectural details salvaged by Karen and Walt Worthy during the restoration of the historic Davenport Hotel, alongside stunning examples of decorative arts pieces donated by Louis (Lewis) Davenport, Jr., offering a rare look at the beauty the Davenports built not just for guests, but for themselves.
